This privacy notice sets out how I will deal with your email address and any personal data you give to me when you sign up for my email newsletter, engage me to provide book whispering services or attend a writing class. The privacy notice also tells you what you can do if you’re not happy with the way I process your data.

Why am I processing your data?

If you’ve joined my email newsletter then you’ve provided me with your email address so that I can keep you informed about my books, writing courses and book whispering services. If I’m working with you on book whispering or mentoring I will need to retain certain information about you.  You may disclose special categories of personal data to me during the course of the service (e.g. health information) which I may need to retain in order to ensure I’m tailoring the services to you as appropriate.  You may disclose special categories of personal data to me if you attend a writing class (e.g. health information) and I will use this to ensure that I’ve addressed any access or disability requirements which you may have. I only use your personal data to provide the newsletter, services or writing class and it is not used for any other purpose.

Legal basis for the processing

There are six legal basis for processing personal data.  I am processing yours on the basis of:

(a)          contract in relation to the personal data;

(b)          consent in relation to the special categories of personal data; and

(c)           vital interests where I need to share your information in case of an emergency (see below).

What data do I have?

At the beginning of the book whispering relationship or when you book to attend a writing class you will provide me with your name, address, email address, telephone numbers.  Before or during the sessions you may disclose special categories of personal data to me (e.g. health information). If you sign up for my email newsletter I will have your name and email address.

Who do I share your personal data with?

I use MailChimp to send out my email newsletter and will therefore share your email address with them. MailChimp are located outside of the EEA and their privacy statement can be read at https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Other information which you provide to me will be kept confidential. I shall not disclose any information that you provide to me to any third party without your prior consent except in the case of emergency.

How long do I keep your information for?

If you’ve engaged me to provide book whispering services or have attended a writing class, I keep your contact details for six years as I need to have a full record for tax and accountancy reasons.   I delete or destroy any special categories of personal data once the contract has been completed (i.e. after I’ve delivered the manuscript assessment to you or after the class has taken place).
