At the start of lockdown in the Spring I began running a weekly mindful writing session on Zoom. I’ve always found writing calming and I hoped to share that with others and provide a little period of quiet creativity in these difficult times.

The group has grown to include people from all over the country as well as people who are based more locally.  Being inherently pretty modest it’s hard for me to talk about how well it’s gone so I’ll hand over to a couple of the group to say how they’ve found the sessions:

“I have not ever considered myself to be a writer. However, after joining Alys West’s writing group, I found not only am I thoroughly enjoying the experience, but I have discovered new ways in which to start the process of writing and thinking about the world around me…Thank you Alys…”
“Alys, besides being a skilled practitioner of the craft of writing, has a rare talent for gently leading others to awareness while at the same time brightening their day.”

I run sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, both at 6.30pm for 40 minutes. Sessions cost £5 (although there’s an option to pay for 4 sessions in advance for £16).  No writing experience is required. All you need is a pen and paper and a willingness to explore where the words take you.  If you’d like to join, please email me at I know everyone in the group will make you very welcome.
