At the start of lockdown I began running a weekly mindful writing session on Zoom. I’ve always found writing calming and I hoped to share that with others and provide a little period of quiet creativity in these difficult times.
The group has grown to include people who join us from the mountains of North Carolina as well as people who are based more locally. Being inherently pretty modest it’s hard for me to talk about how well it’s gone so I’ll hand over to a couple of the group to say how they’ve found the sessions:
“I have not ever considered myself to be a writer. However, after joining Alys West’s writing group, I found not only am I thoroughly enjoying the experience, but I have discovered new ways in which to start the process of writing and thinking about the world around me…Thank you Alys…”
“Alys, besides being a skilled practitioner of the craft of writing, has a rare talent for gently leading others to awareness while at the same time brightening their day.”
The sessions are at 6.30pm on Wednesdays for 40 minutes and cost £5 per session (although there’s an option to pay for 4 sessions in advance for £16). No writing experience is required. All you need is a pen and paper and whatever you use to connect to Zoom. If you’d like to join us please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I know everyone in the group will make you very welcome.
